Decisions Decisions...How to Pick Your Favourite Musical

Someone will ask you one day, 'So what's your favourite musical?' If your like me, you will not know how to answer. In this post I will list 4 ways which may help to make up your mind.

1) Quite obviously a key question to ask yourself is - is can you dance along. Some major dances have come from musicals. Everyone knows the hand movements to 'Greased Lightening' and especially the 'TimeWarp'. If the songs in a certain musical gets your feet tapping and your hips moving, bare it in mind.

2) Before the dance, there is the song behind the moves. Try to think of a musical which you can remember a WHOLE song if not just a few lines. And if the songs isn't the title number even better.     For example - In Wicked, I do love Defying Gravity but here's a few lines from No Good Deeds  done from memory :s - 'What is this chanting, I dont even know what I'm reading, I dont even know what tricks I ought to try. Fiyero where are you all dead or bleeding one more disaster I can add to my generous demise.'  (if I've got it wrong I do apologize.)

3) Who stars in it - whether it's on stage or on screen the stars of a musical will draw you in. If your not sure whose in your favourite musical, or if they star in more musicals you can check on The Internet Movie Database.
Although, I've never seen her on stage but I am a fan of Idina Menzel, she was the original Elphaba in Wicked then she starred as Maureen Johnson in the film version of Rent and now she's cast stars in the hit TV show Glee.

4) It's your friends birthday and he/she has asked you to dress up as your favourite musical character - who do you go as?? Fancy dress is always a laugh especially if your going to  a special screening or to the theatre to see your chosen musical. There is the famous T-Birds or Pink Ladies jackets from Grease or the lederhosen's and nun outfit from The Sound Of Music. My personal favourite is from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and I either rock it up as Magenta or wear a lab coat and go as Janet.
Me rocking it up as Magenta.

Obviously you have to also enjoy the show/ film and not watch it because girlfriend/boyfriend/parents or grandparents are forcing you. As you probably tell, I have a few favourites and could not possibly choose from a single one.
But I would love to hear your favourites and how you chose it to be?!

  1. My favourite musical has got to be "Rocky Horror" as I gave birth to this little "Creature of the Night"
